Report: Gender imbalances in the film industry

Only 1 in 4 film directors is a woman! This is one of the findings at the heart of Patrizia Simone’s report on the complex access of women to the film industry.

The report, Women Professionals in Film Production, provides an assessment of the gender imbalance among film professionals in the European film industry. Our analysis includes an overview of the gender of professionals who have worked on at least one European feature film in one of the following key roles

• Director
• Writer
• Producer
• Director of photography
• Composer
• Actor in a leading role

In addition, the report explores the gender composition of professional crews and identifies the share of films led by female-dominated crews.
