Durban FilmMart 2024: A Celebration of African Cinema Excellence
The 15th Durban FilmMart (DFM) took place in Durban from July 19 to 22, 2024, under the theme “African Visions Unleashed: From Disruption to Accountability.” This premier event in the African film industry brought together approximately 1460 filmmakers and other industry professionals from 58 countries across Africa and beyond.
DFM 2024 concluded with the announcement of the DFM Awards on Monday, July 22. Magdalene Reddy, Director of the Durban FilmMart Institute, expressed her satisfaction with the talent showcased in the program and the film projects presented, highlighting that they exemplify the strength of African cinema. “The memories made, networks expanded, and partnerships forged have significantly contributed to DFM’s enduring legacy and impact. We extend our gratitude to our partners for their support in celebrating and elevating African storytellers, producers, and content creators,” she said.
Among the 30 awards presented was an OIF-ACP-EU prize in the form of a 12 to 18-month mentorship, won by the film “Londoner” by Nigerian director Babatunde Apolowo.
