Black Rhino VR Secures Spot in Safaricom’s Spark Accelerator Program

Black Rhino VR, a dynamic tech startup based in Nairobi and a beneficiary of the Ignite Culture programme, has been selected for the prestigious Spark Accelerator Program, an initiative designed to support the growth and scaling of early stage fintech and content startups.

In alignment with their mission to accelerate the adoption of immersive technologies in Africa, Black Rhino VR is committed to demonstrating the transformative power of XR technologies for social progress and economic empowerment. ‘This vision has driven us to seek opportunities that enable us to build a scalable and sustainable business model. The Spark Accelerator Program, launched by Safaricom, M-Pesa Foundation, and Sumitomo Corporation, offers invaluable support to organizations like ours,’ said Brian Afande Chief Executive Officer of Black Rhino VR.

From an initial pool of 217 exemplary small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Black Rhino VR has distinguished itself by being selected as one of the top nine organizations to join the first cohort of the prestigious Spark Accelerator Program. These startups, spanning sectors such as embedded finance, future fintech, SME productivity tools, and content, were chosen through a rigorous application process. During several months, the accelerator programme will support these businesses by providing training, mentorship, and go-to-market strategies, using an ecosystem-based approach that offers access to markets, technology, product development, and capital.

‘This achievement is not just a win for Black Rhino VR and our partners, but also a monumental victory for the broader cultural and creative industries (CCIs) ecosystem. It marks a significant step toward bridging the gap between corporate institutions and businesses within CCI. We are committed to using the resources from this program to build a world-class organization that continues to push the boundaries of innovation in the CCI sector,’ Brian Afande stated.
