Why the Awa Prize?

Entrepreneurship transcends borders and genders, bringing together women and men who invigorate their communities through their businesses. However, female entrepreneurs often face particular obstacles that complicate the realization of their projects. Inequitable social norms, the burden of family care, difficulties in accessing markets and financing, and gender-based physical and psychological violence are significant barriers faced by many women.

Aware of these economic challenges and determined to promote a better distribution of opportunities, Enabel, at the request of the Minister of Development Cooperation and Urban Policy, Meryame Kitir, created the Awa Prize, Entrepreneurs with Impact. This competition aims to highlight women-led businesses and to unite a community of entrepreneurs committed to fighting socioeconomic inequalities.

The Awa Prize goes beyond a mere competition by organizing numerous events at both local and international levels to raise awareness among women and men about the opportunities offered by female entrepreneurship. These meetings aim to implement concrete actions to overcome persistent obstacles and promote equal opportunities in the business world.
