The WCF ACP kicks off: The scheme grands its first funding
The World Cinema Fund (WCF) of the Berlinale has just announced 14 funding recommendations to promote “world cinema”. The funding round, amounting to almost €400,000, includes two selections eligible for the ACP World Cinema Fund (ACP WCF), launched last February under the aegis of the ACP-EU Culture Programme, to promote audiovisual co-productions in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries.
Among the selected projects is Bomb Bay, a documentary by Franco-Malagasy director Nantenaina Lova, which will become famous in 2014 with Ady Gasy, The Malagasy Way, a feature-length film about the Malagasy population and its relationship to production and consumption in a context of full financial crisis and globalisation.
The second proposal, No U-Turn, is a project by Ike Nnaebue, a Nigerian producer, screenwriter and director, recognized by the African film industry as one of the precursors of the new African cinema.
No U-Turn, his first documentary, is a very personal film that tells the story of a young award-winning Nigerian filmmaker who has set himself the task of reliving his experience as a young adult trying to travel to Europe by road.
The WCF jury made its selection from 153 projects from 50 countries. For more information please see the following link: https://bit.ly/3fepS65
