The ACP-EU Culture programme opens new funding opportunities for ACP audiovisual co-production: Clap ACP, Deental ACP and World Cinema Fund ACP launch their calls for projects

The three beneficiary funds of the call for proposals “Support to ACP audiovisual coproduction”, Clap ACP, Deental ACP and World Cinema Fund ACP, will have to devote at least 80% of the amount of the grants received to supporting financially third parties through calls for audiovisual co-production projects launched at least once a year. The first calls for projects launched at the beginning of 2020 are now closed. These calls focused on improving the conditions for the creation and production of audiovisual works in the ACP countries. New calls will be proposed soon.   • L’Organisation Internationale de La Francophonie & FONSIC (Clap ACP Fund and its “ACP bonus” scheme)

The submission deadline for the first call was closed on 30th January 2020 for Documentaries/Series and on 15th February 2020 for the section « Cinema/fiction ». A session will be open between 1 and 15 June 2020 for the Documentaries/Series commission and from 15 to 30 June for the Cinema-fiction commission. The ACP bonus complements the other funds allocated to the Cinema Fiction Commission (support for the production of long and short films ; the development of a feature film) and the Documentaries-Series Commission (aid to production and development).

The CLAP-ACP-FONSIC fund (managed by the FONSIC, partner of the OIF), is intended to finance co-productions associating Ivory Coast with countries of the African, Caribbean, Pacific (ACP) group of states, in the categories – “Fiction feature films (Cinema, Animation, TV)”, “Series” and “Documentaries” – through an annual selection made by the Technical Reading Commission. In addition to this funding, there are mentoring or support mechanisms (strengthening the quality of projects). A Call for Projects takes place each year in 2020 and 2021.

For the year 2020, the CLAP ACP – FONSIC Fund is endowed with an amount of 214,015,230 CFA (326,264 €). The program is as follows:

Launch of the Call for Projects : March 31, 2020

Submission of proposals: from April 1 to 30, 2020

Commission meeting: June 2020

  • World Cinema Fund Berlinale (WCF ACP)

The results of a first call for projects within the ‘World Cinema Fund ACP’ scheme, closed in February 2020, is currently being considered for assessment. A new call is expected before the summer. Eligible projects must address the cultural identity of the ACP regions and contribute to the development of the local film industry. The ‘WCF ACP’ complements other budgets for audiovisual co-production. Funding for these projects can be doubled or tripled. The films supported by WCF ACP can be supported up to 200 000 euros.

  • Centre national du Cinéma et de l’Image animée (CNC –Deental ACP Fund)

The objectives of the DEENTAL ACP Fund are to develop innovative strategies and new mechanisms for audiovisual production in ACP countries; accompany authors and producers; support the progress of projects at all stages of the production chain; promote the development of an international network of young filmmakers and producers. The amount requested cannot exceed 60% of the total budget of the film.
